Wondering how best to support Fast Friends? Here are some tried-and-tested ways to join in. It’s easy and fun. So get your family, friends and colleagues involved too!
Sponsored Fast
Many people want to take on a challenge and experience hunger first-hand by doing a 12 or 24 hour fast. See our ‘rules for safe fasting’ below.
Rules for Safe Fasting
- Don’t fast for too long. Start your fast after your evening meal and don’t go without food for more than 24 hours.
- Drink plenty of fluids. Also, you might want to suck on sweets to keep your energy up.
- Eat if you become uncomfortable. If you develop a head-ache or feel light headed or dizzy, you should eat something immediately. Your sponsors will understand.
- Fasting is not recommended for anyone who is diabetic or has kidney or liver problems, or anyone who suffers from an eating disorder, asthma or tuberculosis. If in doubt, please consult your doctor.
Sponsored Event
Set yourself a challenge such as a sponsored walk, silence, or a ‘5 a side’ football and people will be eager to sponsor you. Maybe the whole family or office could go mobile-free for one day! Almost anything you can think of can be turned into a fundraiser.

Remember, every single pound counts. By helping Concern you are helping people find long-term solutions to their hunger. Every pound you raise will make a big difference.
Raising Money by Sponsorship
- Only ask family, friends and those known to you for sponsorship – do not go door to door in your area unless you know the people very well.
- Always get someone to put a large amount first so others will follow.
- Ensure you get your sponsors to tick the gift aid box if applicable to them.
- It will save time and avoid confusion if you get the sponsorship money from your sponsor at the time they agree to sponsor you, so you don’t have to follow people up
- It is a good idea to keep your sponsorship card and sponsorship money together in a bag or envelope somewhere safe.
